Because Mendeley works primarily as a desktop application, there are 2-3x as many people using Mendeley as are reflected in site traffic stats. In addition, the data for Zotero are inaccurate (what looks like a rise is actually the right half of a periodic dip, but the data to the left is missing in compete's dataset from which the graph was made). The upshot is that while Zotero has more site traffic than Mendeley and has since the beginning, Mendeley is rapidly catching up. Since that's not relected in the graph, and because the comparison isn't valid due to the different ways the applications generate traffic, I've replaced the graph with just the one from Mendeley. If a graph comparing the two is really wanted, the one from Google Trends I linked to above would more closely reflect what's really going on.
