Facts:
- As of February 1st, 2010, there were 425 confirmed deaths of H1N1 (Human Swine) Flu in Canada. On January 27, 2010, the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) announced that the second wave of pandemic H1N1 2009 has tapered off. See the PHAC's weekly FluWatch (in French) reports for the latest information.

- The earliest cases of H1N1 Flu Virus (Human Swine Flu) were detected in Mexico in April 2009. By late April, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control had declared a public health emergency and warned that a possible new international pandemic may be emerging. With the World Health Organization (WHO) and its international partners - including Health Canada and PHAC - steps were taken to contain the virus and to inform the public what they could do to protect themselves.
