Dealbreakers or key features
- Decisions about which products to trial need to be made. To aid in narrowing down our list, please list factors that are "dealbreakers". Which deficiencies would make you cross a product off the list, or conversely, which factors are overwhelmingly important to you? Frequency of update? Inclusion of drug info? Clear references?
Possible evaluation questions
CONTENT & FEATURES
- Does it provide general knowledge about a condition, for example "diabetes"?
- Are topics limited or comprehensive in their coverage?
- Does it link to textbooks?
- Does it provide specific information to answer a foreground PICO question?
- Are patient handouts included in the product?
- Are CE credits available?
- Are practice guidelines included?
- Is there a separate drug search component?
- Are medical calculators/tools included?
- Are links to PubMed provided?
- Are ICD-9 codes included?
- Is there a differential diagnosis feature?
- Is it possible to set up email or PDA alerts?
- Does it fulfill a need not addressed elsewhere?
AUDIENCE
- Is the target audience family doctors or specialists?
CURRENCY
- How often is the information updated?
- Is medical news (daily? weekly?) reported on?
- Is the information date stamped?
AUTHORSHIP & AUTHORITY
- Are the authors of the information listed?
- Is there a peer review process?
- Is evidence grading indicated?
- Is there information on how the evidence is determined?
- Are references included?
PRESENTATION & FORMAT
- Can product easily be used on PDAs? or Apple iPhone for physicians
- Is the layout of the information helpful, for example are there sections and subsections that users can open and expand at will? (for example causes/complications/tests/differential diagnosis /drugs/prognosis/treatment/prevention/screening/patient information/references...)
- Is the conclusion of the topic presented at the beginning of the writeup?
- Is it easy to navigate?
