Nursing 2.0 is a phrase that you rarely hear although you do see the phrase nursing education 2.0 in articles written by Skiba et al. Both terms, however, refer to the use of social media in nursing and as a means of encouraging interactivity online with nurses for social networking purposes. With the general rise of social networking in society, social media has become a term that is synonymous with web 2.0 but the terms are actually distinct. There is some evidence that web 2.0 as a term is passe.

The ‘social’ aspect of social media seems to resonate more with health professionals than either ‘web 2.0’ or ‘nursing 2.0’.
