Betty Sutherland (retired) was born in Brandon, Manitoba and received a Bachelor of Arts degree (History and Music) from the University of Alberta, and a Master of Library Science degree from Dalhousie University. Sutherland is a former Associate University Librarian of the WK Kellogg Health Sciences Library at Dalhousie University, a position she held from 1990 to 2004. Prior to her work at Dalhousie University, she was the head of library services at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography. Sutherland was given an honourary life membership in CHLA/ABSC (Canada) in 2004.
