Best practices is a term that has linkages to evidence-based medicine and continuous quality improvement. According to the Institutes of Medicine... "as long as the gap persists between the prevailing patterns of care and best practices readily established for a given condition, health care cannot deliver the value we want and expect."..
Closer to home in Canada, various best practices approaches have been discussed. The MHIKNET Librarian for Manitoba Health performs comprehensive literature searching to identify high quality evidence in the area of best practices. The health department reviews the search results and requests articles, saving time and resources while utilizing the librarian’s expertise, particularly in using search filters to narrow results.
The librarian has created the following best practices search filter in PubMed that provides consistency in searching for relevant literature and is included in focused search strategies that are used for ongoing alerts of current evidence-based literature.
